Maybe it's a desire to fulfill lifelong goals or maybe it's just a last attempt to hang on to my dwindling youth, but as the Big Three-Oh looms around the corner for me, the urge to complete certain athletic goals before my body falls apart is growing stronger daily.  Running a marathon, cycling around Lake Tahoe, who knows.. maybe a double century before I'm done.  Regardless, here are my top places to to run, bike, hike, ski, etc. in the San Francisco Bay Area...

Mountain Biking

Growing up on the Peninsula, I have become far better versed in the trails off Skyline Boulevard as opposed to the "Birthplace of Mountain Biking", Marin.

1) Skeggs Point (Coming Soon)

2) Purissima Creek (Coming Soon)

3) Flume Trail (Coming Soon)

4) Montebello (Coming Soon)

5) China Camp (Coming Soon)

Running

It's amazing the trails you can find in the City if you look for them.  Among my favorite places to run in San Francisco are the Presidio and Land's End Trail.  On either of these runs, the Golden Gate Bridge is simply amazing.

1) The Presidio (Coming Soon)

2) Stanford (Coming Soon)

3) Land's End (Coming Soon)

4) Sawyer Camp Trail (Coming Soon)

Road Rides

Riding in San Francisco is pretty much always a pain.  Cars everywhere with drivers who never seem to acknowledge bikers, stop signs every block, and hills that will make even the mighty Pantani cringe.  However, throw the ol' bike on your roof and 30 minutes later you are in either Palo Alto or Marin for some of the best cycling around...

1) Page Mill (Coming Soon)

2) Alpine Road (Coming Soon)

3) King's Mountain (Coming Soon)

4) Nicasio Reservoir (Coming Soon)

5) SF-Tiburon (Coming Soon)

Skiing/Snowboarding

"Sierra Cement".  That's what some consider the fluffy, white stuff to be in Lake Tahoe.  Personally, I love it.  The larger marquee resorts are great when there's nobody there, but on the weekends, the last things I want are 10 minute lift lines and people in my way on the slopes.  Check out my favorite places to ski, including some "hidden gems"....

1) SugarBowl (Coming Soon)

2) Alpine Meadows (Coming Soon)

3) Kirkwood (Coming Soon)

4) Squaw (Coming Soon)

5) Homewood (Coming Soon)

Hikes

With the hectic schedules people have to deal with, one of the best benefits of living in the San Francisco Bay Area is the easy access to amazing hikes.

1) Yosemite (Coming Soon)

2) Tahoe (Coming Soon)

3) Marin (Coming Soon)

4) Big Sur (Coming Soon)
